“Caring for God's Creation: Anabaptists and Climate Change”
Doug Graber Neufeld, Professor of Biology, Eastern Mennonite University
Synopsis: There is a scientific consensus that climate change is real, is caused by humans, and will have serious impacts. None-the-less, there is little motivation in the general public for either personal or political action to address this issue. Although Anabaptists communities traditionally have a close relationship to the land, attitudes and practices on climate issues generally reflect those of the general public. This talk will explore what current research tells us about what determines our responses to the threat of climate change, with a focus on how theology intersects with science and social science disciplines in forming a Mennonite understanding of creation care.
